Unacceptable violence in Gaza: Jean Asselborn summons the Ambassador of Israel to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg

Following the unacceptable levels of violence recently witnessed in the Gaza Strip, Luxembourg's foreign policy chief, Jean Asselborn, has decided to summon the Ambassador of Israel to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Luxembourg.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs wishes to discuss on that occasion the disproportionate use of force against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, in which over 50 people were killed and hundreds injured on the 14th of May 2018 alone, as well as the public comments made by the Ambassador of Israel in that regard.

Luxembourg strongly condemns the disproportionate use of force against civilians and calls for an independent international investigation. Everything must be done to prevent further acts of violence.

Minister Asselborn joins the calls by the international community, including by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, for actors on the ground and leaders in the region to show calm and restraint in order to avoid a further eruption of violence and any other action that would only hamper the prospects of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
